Vice President of Research & Development Global Procurement Pfizer
Eric Shobe recently retired as the Vice President of Research & Development Global Procurement at Pfizer. He led the organization responsible for developing sourcing strategies for all of Pfizer’s R&D activities across all divisions and legal entities.
Eric joined Pfizer in 2003 and built a new type of procurement organization focused on optimizing R&D from a scientific and business standpoint. Procurement historically had very little involvement in discovery and preclinical activities, and his organization played a substantial role in decreasing cycle times and cost from target identification to First in Patient. Prior to joining Pfizer, Eric came from Pharmacia with over 10 years of experience in scientific positions from Discovery through Development. While working as a scientist, he was a key contributor to the successful development of Zyvox® and Camptosar®, which were breakthrough treatments for antimicrobial resistant and oncology patients.
Eric is a Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM®), completed his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Michigan State University and is currently the Co-Chair of Mass Bio’s Strategic Outsourcing CRO/CMO Council and on the advisory board for the Connecticut Institute for Supply Management and numerous incubator and startup companies.
